Hi I have a beautiful 1 1/2 yr old lilac Sharpei (neutered) who has been to puppy training and socialised from an early age so has always got on with other dogs and extremely loving and friendly to people, only issue as a pup was he growled if we went to take something away but when corrected stopped immediately. Recently on 3 occasion he has aggressively growled when being stroked and at the weekend we had a house party & he lept aggressively towards a guest who moved out of his way, he immediately knew he did wrong and was told off and put away from people to make him aware he was being punished, after this happened it was if my loving dog was back. I don’ know if he was tired as he had no escape which he usually has or his ears are playing up as keeps shaking but this is still no excuse, sorry for the long message but wondering if anyone else has experienced this. We are seeing a vet this week. Thanks
Taking Ted to the vet is a good idea to ensure there are no medical reasons for his behaviour, such as unspecified pain or discomfort. If he gets a clean bill of health and you want to look into this further I would suggest getting the help of a trained animal behaviourist as I feel this is a specialist area. Unfortunately there aren’t always quick fixes with some of these cases but advice from a suitable paraprofessional can provide canine-friendly methods of dealing aberrant episodes.
